FORMER SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER CANDY OLSON ENDORSES STACY HAHN FOR SCHOOL BOARD DISTRICT 2

Tampa, Fla., Friday, August 8, 2018 – The Stacy Hahn campaign today announced it’s received the endorsement of School Board Member Candy Olson for the District 2, Hillsborough County School Board seat.

“As a former member of the School Board, I am proud to endorse Stacy Hahn for Hillsborough County School Board District 2,” Olson said. “Stacy Hahn has the drive, vision and passion for education needed to serve the school district. Through her previous work as a special education teacher and her current work developing teachers at USF, Hahn is the best candidate for this position. She will bring the grit necessary to make the difficult decisions facing our School Board, and would add a positive voice to the conversation.”

Olson served 20 years on the Hillsborough County School Board before retiring on October 2014. As a resident of South Tampa, she represented districts that also included areas in Apollo Beach and Ruskin. Previously, she served as the chairwoman of the National Council of the Great City Schools and has locally held leadership positions in various non-profit organizations, including the Homeless Coalition of Hillsborough County.

“I am honored to have earned the endorsement of Candy Olson,” said Hahn. “She was a pragmatic leader on the School Board who always put the interests of parents, students, and teachers ahead of those of bureaucrats. I intend to lead with the same keen eye and pragmatic approach to the important issues facing this school district”.

Hahn’s career spans more than two decades with positions held at every level of the K-20 spectrum, including: public school teacher, student advocate, grant facilitator, program coordinator, educational researcher, and university professor. She is currently the Director of Professional Development and Partnerships for the University of South Florida (USF), College of Education, as well as the Associate Director of The David C. Anchin Center at USF. Her efforts are designed to create strategic partnerships between the University and PreK-12 teachers, focused on the development of quality and relevant teacher preparation and support programs.

She was a special education teacher and taught in both elementary and middle schools throughout the state of Florida. As a faculty member in the USF, College of Education Department of Teaching and Learning, she taught both undergraduate and graduate courses. During this time, she also served as the coordinator of the special education undergraduate program.

Hahn earned her Ph.D. in special education from the University of Florida. She lives in Tampa with her husband, Jeff Hahn, three children, Ethan, Jackson, and Aidan, and their dog, Murphy. To learn more Hahn, visit www.votestacyhahn.com.
